Soup Socks & Stories

For the last two years Tokai Lions have run a special project for Mandela Day called Soup, Socks, and Stories. The idea of the project is to give the homeless or less fortunate some dignity and invite them to join us and be served hot soup and bread at a nicely laid table, and Tokai Lions then sit with them and invite them to share their story. When they leave, every person gets a warm pair of socks to help them with the cold during the winter months.
This project has been run at the Muizenberg Civic Centre for the last two years, and has been a huge success with over 40 litres of soup, 20 loaves of bread, and over 200 pairs of socks handed out. In 2019 we were able to also take left over soup and bread and oranges to the Haven Night Shelter in Retreat.
