Each year Tokai Lions organise a wonderful Christmas Party for children in care from various organisations, and for children who would not normally get to attend a Christmas Party. 2024 saw the party being bigger and better than every, thanks to collaborations with Blue Route Mall and Safripol. 75 children from Marsh Memorial Children’s Home, Amazing Grace Upliftment Centre, Jabula Informal Settlement and local children in care joined this wonderful day of fun. There were magicians, face painting, games, cupcakes, popcorn, lots of Christmas treats, a nail bar, dancing, the Muizenberg Junior Steel Band, and food and ice cream for all. A huge thanks to the Lakeside Fire and Rescue Team who came to visit us all with two fire trucks for the children to look around. The final very special treat is a visit from Father Christmas with a special personal present for each and every child. We do find the reindeer, however, get very tired in the South African heat, so Father Christmas often arrives by his second favourite choice of transport, motorbike. This is an event which is enjoyed by all Lions members just as much as the children.
The collaboration with Blue Route Mall and Safripol meant the children all got beautiful upcycled toys. A huge thanks also to BurgerKing Blue Route for sponsoring a lovely burger lunch for the 75 children, plus Blue Route tenants who provided wonderful items for the children’s goody bags.
In 2023 we saw Smile FM broadcasting live at the evening, and for National TV programme Espresso who filmed the morning and broadcast the event on their morning TV show, see the video below.
