The Lions Club of Tokai’s “Naked Baby Project” has been running for many years and has grown into an incredible project with donations for the project coming from all over the world, as well as monetary donations. Baby items such as nappies, clothing, toys, blankets, socks, beanies, etc., are packed into bags and distributed to maternity units around Cape Town. The project was set up when it was discovered that new mothers from the community often go into hospital to have their baby with little or nothing for their new-born. The packs are given to maternity unit staff who assess those mothers in need and distribute accordingly.
We also hold regular baby pack events whereby we invite those who have donated funds or items to come along and help up pack up the bags. The last packing event held in November and saw 501 baby bags packed ready for distribution.
